A Meal to Come
Time: Midday, leaning towards evening. Weather: With the sun high in the sky, the day is clear with few clouds. Heat is running high. Location: Approximately a mile east of the lake, but not far enough into the forest to encounter thick walls of trees.
Carger was running, running as fast as he could and still faster. Which meant not as fast as he could, but fast enough. He spun and came inches from crashing into a tree, but swerved with reflexes that few other animals possessed. He slipped into the brush and ceased to exist, as far as any passerbyer could see. He loved the forest. He could be crashing and parading upwind one minute, and completely invisible amidst the brush the next. The perfect spot to plan an ambush, to defend, to attack. He shook briefly and growled, the low sound and noise revealing his presence to whoever might've been there. But no one was. The birds sang, ever so oblivious to the threat that a wolf could be. He'd never seen a land like Kouhai before; no real predators, past foxes and weasels, and so the larger animals - the deer, elk, and moose that most wolves preyed on - lived without fear of being hunted. He chuckled to himself. That wouldn't last long. And as a scent drifted to him from beyond the trees, he grinned. It wouldn't last long at all.
The hunt was already on, in Carger's eyes. He could feel his blood pumping as soon as he'd scented the herd. It was a large herd, from what he'd seen from the land so far. From what he could smell, they'd drifted westward from several clearings and grouped together, currently grazing in small openings in the trees. He estimated they would be at a deer run and split through to the lake by the time he could gather his little pack and form up a game plan.
He released a howl, echoing in a large enough space where he'd assumed his pack would've stayed. It was a summoning howl, a call to action, so to speak. He had few members, and he had little doubt that he would gain and lose them as he learned more of them. He would accept any wolf into his lands with hospitality, but to stay they would have to prove themselves to him. He'd yet to tell this to the three wolves that consisted of his members so far, but he'd spoken to all of them so much over the past few days that he was convinced that they knew - at least partially.
His eyes fell on the herd, picking out weaknesses as he waited for them. It would be an interesting milestone yet; the first pack hunt.

Lythium raced between trees, "Sire!" she barked, "You seen them too?"she asked talking of the pack that lay ahead, "I believe there are weak ones." she huffed. "On your command Sire. On your Command." she watched keenly over the prey, as she waited her next call.

Koer Felt the movement in the forest reaching him through the ground and air. His heart began to grow faster as he rememberred his first hunt with his old 'master'. They went after a deer. There was a loud, ringing bang from the end of this pole-thing, and the deer fell dead. "Now Toby, remember that it's always sfer on this side of the shotgun, but I won't shoot you," he had been instructed. He laughed at the irony of that, because he'd be threatened by that very same weapon not long after.
Now he was hunting with his senses and teeth, with no unnatural advantage over the prey. Koer was an excellent tracker. He kept his ear open for instruction. from Carger, who was a few feet away.

Mawla's head was down, half of her nose into the lake as Carger's howl sounded. She jerked her neck upward and listened carefully. This was her call. This was the packs call. She shook her head and bounded off out of the wooded area. She jumped over multiple logs and ran through many bushes until she got to what seemed to be a clearing. She stopped at the edges of the trees and squinted. She could see the pack gathered in the distance. She was late! She was late! She hung her head low and whined but ran to the pack as fast as she could. That was FAST. Once she got withing speaking distance she scooted to a stop, running into Lythium gently, barely nudging her.
"Ah my Lord I'm sorry. I was back at the lake checking out the water and I just... I'm sorry. I should have gotten here faster." She hung her head low and tucked her tail between her legs, looking sadly into his eyes. She was going to screw everything up!

Carger nodded curtly at Lythium. "There are always weak ones," he grinned. "It's only a matter of finding them. "Fair observations, though, and I'm glad you're keeping a lookout," he added, looking at Koer as he approached without words. He nodded in acknowledgement, missing only one more. And then there were four, he thought, looking to Mawla with accepting professionality but a sense of understanding as she leapt towards them. "No worries, Mawla, we'll want to wait for the right time anyway."
He nodded in the direction of the deer. "There's a run only ten feet or so across, I suspect that the herd will reach in only a few minutes. The best place to attack would be from the other side of it, from what I've gathered." Carger stretched his hind legs for a moment. "The deer here are unaccustomed to being attacked by wolves, but it also means that with less predators and competition they're likely to be stronger. That being said, if we can get in and get out as fast as possible, we're safest." He shifted his gaze to them again only after he'd finished speaking. Best to find out how they would react now, rather then later.

"Sire do you have a plan?" Lythium said as she looked to Carger. She stood, sniffing the air with her tail mid high, this was what she was made for, to hunt, to feed her fellow partners, and most of all keep everyone safe even if it meant she didn't keep her self out of harm's way. She pawed the ground in excitement, trying to keep herself calm and under control but it wasn't working all too well.
When hunting, Lythium became a very different wolf, her dark, mysterious, and some what normal self changed into a ravenous, blood thirsty, and murderous hell hound. She was eager for food too, it had been a while since a decent meal, and she knew that her pack mates probably hadn't had anything in a while either. Silently she waited, pondering on what deer had tasted like from her old home land, and wondered if the magical lands of Kouhai housed a different flavor, somehow she thought it would be, and she couldn't wait to experience it.

Carger wasn't unnerved by all eyes on him, but h didn't necessarily relish in it, either. "Yes, I do," he said, thinking silently even as he spoke. "One of us stays behind the herd, me and the other two get ahead of it on the other side of the run. Just as they're passing through, the three of us can jump in, scramble the herd. Pick out a weaker one from behind, three of us can bring it down while the other keeps the rest of the herd on the run."
He looked up, his eyes watching each of their reactions. He listened cautiously for the sounds of the deer tromping lightly through the grasses not too far away.

Mawla uneasily spun around in a swift circle, getting ready for the run. She was ecstatic; hunting was absolutely amazing. It was so much fun! And she was getting particularily good at it, too.
"It's your word, my Lord, but if I could perhaps be a wing man myself.." She smiled, her tail wagging, and her eyes bright. Oh, how exciting it was to hunt with her Alpha! And at his side? Oh, that would be wonderous for her! She jumped ahead of the group and looked out into the field, and then ran back the couple of steps. "Oh! I can already taste the blood."
Her stomach growled and she calmed down. She sat and looked up at the sky. she watched everything at one time, the birds, the clouds, the sun. Oh, the sun. She stared into it carefully squinting and took in a deep breath. The clouds began to form closer together in front of the sun. She exhaled deeply and coughed, shaking off her fur. "I can't believe I just did that! I made more clouds!" She grinned, "I thought it might be easier without the sun in our eyes." It wouldn't rain, though. Even if she tried to make it rain she wouldn't be strong enough; she hadn't practiced enough. But soon she would learn.

Carger nodded, smiling slightly at Mawla. "Good job, Mawla," he said, pleased with her excitement at the prospect of the hung and her zest at using her powers. "And surely you can," he said, looking back to Lythium and Koer. He was at a bit of dissention inside himself; jumping the herd alone was probably the most dangerous part of the job, and naturally he didn't want to force any one of his pack members into the position. But he needed to be right there in the action to see how each of them would react; it was, after all, part of the point of the packs' first group hunt.
He looked at Lythium and Koer. Of the two of them, Lythium was the huntress and Koer was the scout - Lythium, from what he'd seen of here, appeared to be a strong wolf, capable of the task. He knew a bit less about Koer, but he had accepted a queros position, so Carger felt it unfair to thrust such a main role on him. "Lythium, if you could go behind the herd and pick one of them out?" he said, looking at her. "In that case, Koer, you'd be with Mawla and myself."

"Aye, Sire. I will locate the weak point." she said smiling a devious smile. She held her body low to the ground and stalked the herd silently focusing on each deer. The small ones, the large bucks and the does with their young, yet nothing caught her attention. Until her eyes caught hold of a young buck that was limping due to a leg injury. She looked to Carger and the others signaling that she had found the target. Silently she stayed with the herd watching precariously over the injured meal to come.
