Escaping the Suns Relentless Rays
|
Time: The middle of the day, when the sun is hot overhead Weather: Its 95 degrees outside, getting closer to 100. Location: Just next to the river in the loner lands, near a patch of bushes.Tolemn lay near a dead rabbit, or what was left of it anyways since he had eaten it just moments before. Patches of fur were around the body here and there, and the ground was splattered with blood; in his hungry haste to get food into his starving stomach, he had been messy. But that one rabbit didn't do much for his hunger, since he had been hungry for days. It just took the edge of the pain. Now Tolemn was sitting a bit closer to the river, but not quite near enough to get wet. Every so often, a spray of water would come up and cool him off, but it wasn't enough to get him really wet, so he didn't mind. He considered taking a nap where he was, but quickly changed his mind; the sun overhead, with its rays beating relentlessly down upon the land, would bake him to death. He sighed and rose, preparing to seek shelter. [/blockquote]

A little breeze touches her short multy color pelt, as her head would lift and enjoy the cool breeze, even though the breeze was just a little warmer then a normal cool breeze. Her eyes closed as she walked, as she made a trail with her fallen fur and her paws. She was rather satisfied with her life, and enjoyed every minute of it. Her ears perked as little movements enter them, as her eyes would slowly open revealing her maroon/brown eyes. Her eyes searching for the source of noise but nothing came into sight. She reclosed them and continues her walk, as a smile stayed on her face as her tail swayed as she walked, not realizing that there were more loners in the area.

Tolemn stood for a moment, enjoying a nice breeze that brushed close to the land, before stretching. His piercing gaze searching the land around him, looking for a nice clump of trees, or even bushes, anything that would produce enough shade for him to lay in. He sighed, the heat making him sick and tired.
He turned, too see if there were anything off to his side, and caught sight of a pretty she-wolf with a pretty multi-colored pelt. He watched her come closer, then called out in a level voice, "Well, Hello there." Just standing there, his tongue lolled out; the heat was making him exhausted.

Her body soon stood still, her ears perking, her eyes staring in the direction of the source. Her eyes only saw spots for a good minute before she could realize there was another wolf there. She sniffed the air to catch the scent of the loner; she wanted to know if she was staring at a male or a female. Once figuring out that it was a male, her tail began to sway a little, as her smile appeared on her face again. The things she was thinking tend to switch, should she play nice, or make a big scene, or make this a long term goal. She kept her smirk on her face as she began to move closer to the male, taking a long time to respond but finally the moment came when she was about 10 yards from him. “ Hello stranger. ” She says with her sweet and calm voice.

Tolemn smiled, his sharp teeth glistening. She seemed friendly enough, and he hadn't had company in quite some time; he could fit a conversation into his not-so-busy schedule. He padded forward slowly, as to not appear threatening, and dipped his head in greeting. She had a soft voice, sweet. "Good evening. I am Tolemn, a humble loner. May I ask you your name?" His voice was light, friendly, and his eyes sparkled with a playful light. He sat a couple feet from her, facing her. He took in her appearance quickly, not wanting to get caught staring. She was a very pretty wolf; her coat was thick, with rich colors. Her eyes were pretty, and almost similar to his own.

Water was absolutely wonderful. Spir felt totally renewed compared to how she was doing just a few days ago. She had slipped back in the loner lands to hunt and cool off - even she wasn't crazy enough to risk hunting on a pack's land. She was currently in the water, which was unpleasantly warm but so much better then the shore. It just brushed her belly, as she didn't risk going closer the the center. It was fast, even in summer, and she'd already pitched forward in an unexpected hole once. Spir trusted that she could evade the current, and the water was a blessing to her still slightly sore paws. She'd taken valuable time off from hunting, but it was worth it. She would wait until evening, maybe even after the sun set, and then scrounge up a meal somewhere. Or she'd go hungry, and try again tomorrow. Less creatures died at the river, so her powers were taking a passive stance for now. And Ilila, her dead sister that refused to stay silent, was not acting up, either. It was a good day.
She didn't stop walking even when she heard voices, anad didn't exit the water. In her current state, it wouldn't be wise to start something. In fact, it would be wise to turn around and walk away before she was noticed.Hm. Wise. She tried to remember if it was an adjective that typically described her. Nope. "Afternoon, more like," she observed as she heard the 'humble' male's voice, "and not too pleasant if you asked me." Wonderful; they hadn't got to introductions yet. She hated being late to parties.

It was hard to refocus as the scent touched her nostrils and her hairs on her back stood up. She felt as if she was being double teamed all of a sudden, and she didn’t like that feeling at all. As her fur stayed up she looked back at the male who had finally told her his name, Tolemn. She soon remember that he had ask her for her name so with anymore silence from her she just responded with “Meli…” she soon looked back to the other female not much she could say now. Her mind started to wonder, poison was her way out if she needed to get out.

Tolemn took a step back, startled by the newcomer. Its scent and voice quickly told him that it was a she-wolf. Her gazed at her for a moment, considering wether of not she meant harm. Her demeanor told him no, but he couldn't be sure. He would give her the benefit of the doubt though, and let his tail wag once to show he was friendly. "I am sorry to hear that you are not having a good day, miss. May I ask your name?" He just barely caught Meli's, but sent a nod in her direction to show that he heard her.
Tolemn didn't often use his power, atleast not during ordinary conversations, but it was kind of a default thing. If he didn't constantly keep ahold of it, and remember not to use it, he could easily hear the thoughts of the other wolves even if he didn't wish to. At that moment, he completley forgot to restrain his telepathy, and the voice of Meli filled his head. Poison? He sent her a sharp, wide-eyed glance, but said nothing about what he had heard.

Not realizing that the wolf could read her mind, she began to plan attack. These wolves were not her friend, and nor did she need friends. "I dare you to come closer…" as she thought to herself, looking at Spir. She then looked back at Tolemn, her eyes shifty. It was easy to see that sometimes she wears her emotions on her sleeves. With a chill that blew by, her tense body eased as a twitch ran through her blood.

Tolemn watched as Meli's attitude changed into a demanding one, and noticed her change in posture. A few moments ago she was fairly relaxed, but now she was stiff, almost like she was on guard. Where her voice had been calm at first, it was now demanding. He tilted his head at her, wondering why she went through this suddden change. And then he understood, as he realized that he could hear her planning her attack... should he run or fight? Run definetly, he wasn't going to fight a pretty she-wolf over nothing.
"Pardon me staring, I was just noticing the lovely color of your pelt..." Tolemn heard her thoughts again, no longer feeling guilty for it. He decided that maybe he could get her to relax again if he gave her a compliment, as he took a step backwards from her. Just one little step, but he was prepared to run.

She never really had time to hear a compliment from a wolf before, she was always on the go, and she never liked to chit chat for to long. She stared at him for a long time, from the expression on his face to a compliment made her question the wolf. Was he trust worthy? She didn't really know, like she didn't know he could read her mind. 'Is he serious? He's really complimenting my fur?" she thought to herself, as she looked to Spir then back at Tolemn. Her expression soon became noticeably changeable as her tenseness went back to calmness, as she took in the words from Tolemn. She still felt trapped, and one touch on her would cause a painful rash. So her guard wasn't down, it was just hidden. Soon she broke her silence and spoke, "I'm sure that is the reason for your staring." for her mind knew there was something else.

Watching the two bickering to themselves, Spir could only think, 'Are these guys for real?' And then she thought above her current position: Staring up at them, nearly drenched by the water's spray, eyebrows raised in a comical expression. She ran, a slow-motion run through the water, and leapt clear of the current long enough to grip the side and run up the slow of the river. She shook briefly and turned to look at them again. Spir took a mock-bow. "Well, good sir, I am called Spir around these parts. "And, unless I misheard, you are Tolemn?" she looked at the female. "And Meli?" She didn't seem at all conflicted about having eavesdropped on the pair, or very dubtle upon revealing it. However, upon exiting the cool relief of the water, she was nearly dry almost instantly. She licked her chops and glanced at the rabbit carcass to the side, reminding her that she should probably be hunting right then.

Tolemn gave Meli a half-smile, but didn't take another step in either direction. He could tell that she didn't really believe that that was why he had been staring at her, but she appeared to have taken her gaurd down, and that was all that mattered to him at the moment. He turned to look at the other wolf, who was standing in the middle of the water, looking a little funny. As though she could read his thoughts, she made her way out of the water. Even as he watched, the water that had drenched the other she-wolf just seconds before was already dried in the heat. "Hello, Spir." He said, dipping his head in a greeting that was similar to the one that she had given them. The corners of his mouth lifted slightly more, as she practicaly admitted to having eavesdropped of their convesation. "Yes, you heard right. I am Tolemn." He said, not saying anything for Meli... she could speak for herself.

Meli mind wasn’t all too trustful with the two wolves. She did see the male was rather calm yet uneasy. The female somewhat scared her, and she didn’t like feeling fear, she was to independent and full of pride. She watched the two wolves as they answer each others questions, and finally she spoke up. “Yes. Meli” was all she said as her body slowly moving, almost unnoticeable. She already forgot the conversation towards Tolemn that they just had. She wasn’t sure what all she should do, if she just leave and move on. Or stay and hope that the female wolf would leave, and a game could be played. OR maybe she just leaves and just move on with her lonely life. She couldn’t decide, but with all this in her mind she decided to sit down, since her body was sore from her earlier adventure in the thickets.

With careful placement of his massive paws and great silence did Arken maneuver himself through the vast amounts of bush that thrived in the area. Traveling into a foreign ground was what Arken usually did since he was a rogue. In this unknown land did he try his best not to attract attention to himself, thus he walked strong but with little indentation of showing any signs of aggression. This big obsidian male walked through these bushes like a snake in tall grass despite his size. However, he did feel uneasy as his keen senses picked up various scents close by.
"..There are others around..It's no surprise..with this much plant life, water shouldn't be too far away.." he said softly to himself as he pondered on his next move. Arkens auds often twitch to catch any noise that might grab his attention. Not sensing any danger did he finally decide to go in and investigate, being as curious as he was sneaky. However as he drew closer to the group, he withdrew his sneaky ways and found it was best to have a more calm simple approach. "I'm sure if they caught me trying not to be noticed, they'd think I was up to something; so ill just stop my hiding." he thought to himself as he closed the distance between himself and the group within 2 minutes.
As the black male pushed through the final bush did he now feel the full power of the suns rays as his black coat seemed to absorb each indivisual ray. Coming to the clearing where promising green met the water did he notice the other wolves that he had smelled earlier. Arkens crimson optics layed on male first, then to the other 2 females. Quickly did he notice blood had been spilled but not of a wolf. This caused his head to tilt gently to the right in thought.
Arken obsidian coat was brushed just then by a hot breeze that blew with a tad bit of force. Closing eyes did he take in a deep breath and relax his powerful muscles. Rolling his shoulders did he make them pop and thud as the knots in them slowly became undone. He was not so far away from the group, about 15 yards, nonetheless he took a seat to try to rest from his journey from the land he left behind. Now, in his mind did he wonder if the others had taken a notice to him if not de didn't mind, he was fine either way.
